Chapter 5. Bill has caught the attention of an international successful performing artist, Kevin Scott Macmichael and together they make “Magical Worlds” his debut record. (See short documentary below.)

Magical Worlds w/ Kevin Macmichael

Bill met Kevin Macmichael because he lived a few blocks away from him in the north end of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Kevin had just gotten back from England after playing and being the musical director for Robert Plants “For the Nation” record. His hit  “I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight” still plays on the radio internationally. In Halifax, Kevin was a sought after session guitarist and producer. Bill approached him with his hundred songs and Kevin agreed to help him make a record. The CD was produced in Kevin's brothers basement ( Redge Macmichael) at SoundPro Studios in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and the cream of the crop session musicians were invited in. Chris Mitchell on Sax, Jamie Gatti on bass, Dave Burton on drums, Jimmy Ralph and Donny Muir on keys and Andre Laquois on percussion.

The collection was released to positive reviews and featured on CBC Atlantic airwaves twice but the record never really was road tested. To this day, it has never been played live with a band. Bill and Kevin, as a duo, played a few songs from the record only in two locations; Stan Rogers Folk Festival, and the Festival by the Sea in St. John New Brunswick in 1999.

The Making Of Magical Worlds Documentary

Here is a documentary made of Bill and Kevin in the studio making the 11 songs Magical Worlds. The local TV station was close to where Bill lived and when acts would cancel hosts of the show Scott Boyd and Liz Rigney would call him up, sometime as early as 5:30 or 6am, and ask if he could scoot over and perform. Of course, Bill was always happy to oblige as he was promoting his record. Note, in the documentary there are a couple of shots of Bill and Kevin at Stan Rogers Folk Festival.
